Welcome back to Art Appreciation. Issue two is a tag team special, six of my favorite Tag Team GX cards from the Sun & Moon era, a mix of black star promos and Cosmic Eclipse pulls, all cards I really like and wanted to share.
A quick admission before we start: calling a six-thousand-dollar Umbreon & Darkrai "underrated" would be a stretch. Half of these are chase cards that everybody already wants, so "appreciation" is doing a lot of work in the title here. I simply like the art and wanted to write about it.
Garchomp & Giratina GX
#SM193Honestly this one still gets me every time, pure storm and motion, one of the most dramatic cards in the whole SM run, must-have. Garchomp tearing through the lightning with Giratina looming behind it.
Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff GX
#226Total 180 from the Garchomp, soft pastel watercolor, so bright it almost glows, Shibuzoh going off here, must-have. That floral wash behind them is the whole thing for me.
Umbreon & Darkrai GX
#SM241The big chase card of the bunch, almost six grand in a PSA 10, so dark and moody, love it, must-have. Umbreon glowing out front with Darkrai creeping up behind over the city at night.
Solgaleo & Lunala GX
#216I've loved Lillie and Lunala since I first played Ultra Moon, so no shot this one wasn't making the list, one of the best character cards in Cosmic Eclipse, must-have. Lillie front and center with both legendaries framing her in the stars.
Magikarp & Wailord GX
#SM166Tiny Magikarp in front of a massive Wailord, the scale gag is the whole joke and it rules, and Mitsuhiro Arita painted it of all people, must-have. Just splash and chaos everywhere.
Pikachu & Zekrom GX
#SM168Pikachu riding shotgun on a charging Zekrom, so much electric energy, kawayoo went all out, must-have. Lightning everywhere, Zekrom barreling right at you.
